POLITICAL NOTES.
Amongst the votes to open upi lands for settlement is one of £3OOO for expenditure in the Jacob’s River No. 3 block. ' Tins block is not far from Colao Bay. The vote for the Riverton to Round Hill road has been, increased from £250 t° £750. The sum of £IOO has been provided for the Alton Bridge, £ *for £, and the Etal stream' bridge vote lias been increased from £175 to £3OO, £ for £. To give access to section 26, block 7, Aparima, £l5O has been voted. In regard to the Nightcaps post office, Mr Thomson has been informed that it has been decided to hold the matter over for consideration with other similar cases till after the walls over. As post office buildings are not being erected during the war except in cases in which they cannot be ’ done without, the work cannot be proceeded with at present. The vote for the work, however, appears on this year’s estimates, which fact keeps it good, and the same remark applies to the Orepuki post office. In reply to his representations, the Postmaster-General has dnforkned Mr J. O. Thomson, M.P., that the settlers of Wild Bush are to be relieved of, the contribution oif £lO that was required from them in connection with the erection of a telephone line to Waipangc. The M to Z Public Petitions Committee considered the petitions urging that provision be made to complete the Orepuki-Round Hill road, and referred them to the Government for consideration.
