GREAT WESTERN DISTRICT RED CROSS FAIR.
The committee meeting on Wednesday evening last was well attended, representatives' of all sub-committees being present. The secretary reported having written to all stock firms in reference to the disposal of sheep and cattle. Mr M. O’Brien telephoned from Glifden that as the result of the day’s tour between 70 and 80 sheep had been donated by Clifclen and Otahu Flat settlers find £l4 10s iin cash. Mr Carnegie Gardner was appointed collector at Clifdeu and Mr W. Scobie at Eastern Bush. Mr Muir reported additional entries in his boob of 12 sheep, 10 bags of chaff, and 7 bags of oats. Mr Mathews reported on additional 4 sheep, 1 heifer, £1 value in chaff, 'add £7 in. cash. Mr L. Brown—9 sheep, 1 bag oats, 15 bags chaff, and £2 in cash. Harrington Bros, offered 100 stakes -either for competition' or sale. Messrs J. O’Brien and P. Brown were appointed to organise a systematic canvass of Otautau for donations. It was resolved to recommend to the stock committee the advisability of awarding a certificate to farmers (500 ..acres or under) for the highest value in 5 sheep pens donated. The complete list of stock, produce, and cash donations' is to be published in the official programmes. It is anticipated that almost every farmer in the district will appear on. the list. Upwards of 400 sheep, 10 heifer® and steers, and £IOO in cash is already booked; and in not one case Has a refusal to contribute been met with. Programmes for “Fair Day,” are now in circulation, and intending competitors will find ample opportunities of testing their prowess under the numerous headings.
