A TIGHTENING UP PROCESS.
Aii unduly large, proportion of the nun examined by the .Medical Board at luingiera on Wednesday (states the ‘‘Press'’) were classed as fit only for home service. Of forty-seven who presented themselves five only were passed as fit for active service, forty were passed as fit for homo service only, and two were rejected as unfit. Tire result was reflected in the .appeals which came before the Canterbury No. 1 Military Service Board at Hattgiora yesterday, for out of forty-five appellants, seven only were classed as lit for active service, two were deferred, one was reported to have failed to attend the medical examination, and thirty-five were passed for home service only. It is stated that the reason for this large preponderance of home service men is due to the fact that the Medical Boards ha ve been instructed to tighten up the medical tests again, owing to so many men who have been passed breaking down in cavip. Au announcement on the subject is expected with in a few days. It is understood (hat men who a few days ago were passed as (it for active service upon their undergoing au operation have now been classed as lit only for homo service.
