BOWLING.
The Bowling matches with Orcpuki and Riverton were again declared off on Wednesday, the morning proving too , wet to tempt the visitors to travel. The greatest interest centred in the challenge match between Riverton and Aparima, played on the former’s green on Tuesday evening. The rinks were as follows: Riverton: W. J. Paukhurst i. Tobin, E. A. Trail and S. Bailey (s.) Aparima.: A. Provan, R. Young, C. De Clifford, and J. lustone. Bailey’s rink soon commanded a strong lead and at the 17th head was six up, the scores being 13—19. In the 18th head Proven drew two just behind the Jack, Young and DeOiifford following with one each. Trail was called upon to draw a rather neat shot through the port on to the Jack, but just failed. Instonf iraa thus lying 4, when the skips went back. Bailey played to open the head up, but failed, Instone 'following with another shot making 5, which Bailey failed to alter, 18—19. The next two heads gave one each 19—20. This made the game exciting and each player showed the greatest care in delivery, in the semi-darkness, and with one bowl to go the game was in Instone’s favour, but nothing daunted Bailey played on© of bis brilliant shots, which dinting the evening had not been too plentiful, and trailed the jack, landing his rink the winner, *21—19. The game was played in the best of spirit and the visitors were highly delighted with the green, the rink being perfect.
