SCOTT’S GAP NOTES.
That the present hard times hare little effect on the residents of Scott's Gap was shown on Friday evening last. At one time fJlere promised to be very lit. tie (if any) harvest, but now that it has been all safely stacked and proved to be of good average yield, the spirits of the farmer have , risen again to “normal,” and to show that they are not by any means depressed, they held their annual' harvest home social and ball in the local hall. Tlie night was beautifully bright and fine and the hall was packed to it a utmost with merrymakers from all parts, a largo number coming - per motor car from Otautau. The social took the form of two hours’ progressive euchre, and much interest was taken in the game by both old and young. Dancing was started immediately the card playing concluded, and • was kept going merrily. 'The music was of the very best, being supplied by Mr Egan (violin), assisted by Mr Grieve at the piano, and by Miss Hassing and Miss Pickett also at the piano. Mr W. Gregg was in his right place as M.C., and kept tha fun going* in his usual style. During an intervaJ in the dancing Mr Paterson, on behalf of tee committee presented the prizes to die winning euchre players, Messrs H, -Clothier and W. Ireland, ami Miss Me-, tvor and .Miss Childs. Th© dancing was relieved with items by Mrs Ireland and Mr Grieve. A bountiful supper was •supplied and everyone voted the affair •me of the best ever held in the Gap. Much credit is due to the committee mu’Ugst whom Mr J, Mclvor (the genial secretary was conspicuous) for the sueess of the function, wiiich broke up somewhere near daybreak.
