On Friday evening last Messrs I. Mathieson and Janies Armstead were entertained 'by members of the Riverton Bowling Club prior to their departure from Riverton. The function was held in J. Andrew’s tea rooms, and after a first-class supper had been done full justice to, and the usual loyal and patriotic toasts had been duly honoured, the president (Mr Jno. Forsyth) proposed the health of Messrs Mathicsou, Armstead, and Culling. The chairman said that Mr Culling was unfortunately absent) that evening, but they would all agree that these gentlemen had been real live members of the club, and he was only voicing the opinion of his fellow bowlers when he stated that he was sorry to lose such enthusiasts. Mr • Mathieson had been one of the winners of the fern rink, and ho expressed the hope that that gentleman would wear it wherever he went and thus show that he wan a bowler. Mr Armstead had always proved himself a capable member. Ho had played m the final, and only lost by one point. Tho chairman regretted that the club was not numerically strong, but ho had no doubt that if each bowler made an effort to secure a member this state of an an s would uot last long. The members, however, had worthily upheld the honour of the club, and ho had no doubt that in time tho Shield would bo in their possession. Ho concluded his remarks by wishing tho guests of the evening, with their wives and families, every prosperity in their new homes. The chairman’s remarks were heartily endorsed by Messrs S. L. Beer, Acbeson, G. Merrie, W. Robinson, J. Pauli, W. McKinnon, J. W, Minton, and A. L. Willett. , . ~ Tho guests of the evening suitably replied, thanking the members for thenremarks. . , , ■ .
