it BACHELOR’S BALL. 10 The bachelors of Gummies Bush e ’ h"M their dance on the 7th, and t he night being beautifully lino the dance was undoubtedly a great success. The bam kindly lent by Mr Hopcroft was very nicely with bunches of holly and ferns gH--0 ing it a very pleasant appearance, j There were about fifty couples , wlio . took part ‘in the first dance. Visi- ■ tors coming from Riverton, Fairfax, - Wild Bush and Gropers’ helped to 3 swell the number. Excellent music j was supplied for the first part by Robertson’s Bros (violin) and Mrs { Hunter (piano), while the music for 1 the second part was left in the ; hands of Messrs Crooks (two) and s Mr A. White, with Miss White’s accompaniment. Messrs Stirling and ’ Davis kindly assisted at intervals. During the evening songs were excellently rendered by Misses Stirling (two) and Messrs Robertson ! a«d Hunter. The catering was t iii the capable hands of Mr Andrews, and with the bachelors handing it round everyone received both quality and quantity. Messrs T. Crooks and P. Stuck acted as M.C.’s and gave every satisfaction. Praise should be given to the untiring secretary G. Robertson and Messrs G. Carmichael, G. Willis, Crooks and Barron (2), who all worked hard to | mak6 the ball one of the best. EUCHRE PARTY AND BALL. The ladies of Thornbury held their euchre tournament and ball on Friday night last. The night was which gave an opportuoity to a very large number to attend tWo most sue- • cessful function held in the hall for some time. There were visitors from as far away as Invercargill. The following were the successful i ones in the euchre tournament : Ladies (first)—Miss McLean, silverhack .hair brush; do (last), (Miss Weir (spoon). • Gentlemen (first), Mr J. Laidlaw (pair brushes in case) ; I do (last), Mr J. Wellers (mug). The music was supplied by Messrs Crooks and Co. in their usual finished manner. The floor was in excellent order, and the hall was nicely decorated with bunting. Refreshments were supplied by Mr Foster, and wore all that could be wished for. Praise is duo to the energetic com- 1 inittee for the way in which the whole proceedings were conducted. Several musical items were contributed during the evening. Dancing was kept going right mer Wily ho the wee hours of morn.

ODDFELLOW’S CONCERT.: 1

The annual concert in aid of thej Oddfellow’s “all was Weld at Drummond on Wednesday evening, and was largely attended. The chairman (Ms J. Ewan) announced it a decided financial success. Ho stated that he had to put before them a very giood programme, but owing to the number of items being so great he hoped that the aiidience would not insist on encores. The concert opened with an overture, well rendered, by Mr Briasco’s string band. Mr philp sung “The, Frenchman,” Mrs J. B. Gowie “Her Secret,” Mr T. R. Cauroll “Ballymoney”, Mr Robert Jameson “Tne Distant Shore, cornet solo by Mr J. Moore (Riverton), duet “Emily and John” by Mrs Cowie and Mr R. Jameson, comic song Mr Daniel, Mr Starlight sang “Darkie’s Wedding," Mr J. Lindsay “Valley of Kentucky” Mr McQuirk gave a very clever exhibition of club swinging, Mr J. Mackintosh sang “Simple Johnny Raw.” The second part was opened with a selection Cakewalk “Hunky Dory” by Brisco's band, followed by a song “Meet me at the G.P.0.” by Master Smart, comic song by Mr Daniels. Miss Prentice sang very nicely “ Just Plain Polk.” .A duet by Messrs Maunder and Robins “Larboard Watch,” song ‘Message from Homo” Mr R. Jameson ; song, “Every Country has its Flag”,Mr Starlighifc ; duet, “Hunting Tower,” by Miss Prentice and Mr Philip ; song, "Ambolino Snow,” Mr Maunder ; song, “The Girl You Can’t Forget,” Mr Robin ; recitation “Glaskie on the Clyde,” Mr Philp. The accompaniments were played by Misses McTnncs and Campbell and Mrs Briasco and Carroll. Judging by the applause which followed the various items the audience were well satisfied with the ‘ -I Mr Chilton then, on behalf of the Lodge and people of Drummond, thanked the performers who had given them such a pleasant evening. He was glad to say the Oddfellows’ Lodge was going ahead. He advised a lot of young ladies who were present to copy the example shown by the young ladies of Riverton and selie on the opportunity of opening a Rebecca Lodge. He then called for throe cheers for the performers, which were lustily given, he announced that refreshments were prepared for them in tiie Hall. After singing a. verse of the National Anthem the hall was cleared for dancing in which a very largo number took part, to the splendid strains of music by Mr, Briasco’s string band. The night was all that could be desired, and live Riverton contingent! (ton in number) report having had a most pleasant trip.
