The factory i s located in the front part of Mr ; Tweedie's premises in Palmeraton street, and it answers admirably fo»the purpose, having previously been used for the -manufacture of vehicles and builders requisites, The plant is pretty and is of the very latest, pattern. It comprises four machines, one band and two circular saws, a77d two lathes. The whole fs driven by a 16-horse power Tangney o«l engane, kerosene being the oil used. Of .the machines, the sticker is tor making skewers and dowells, and at Las ail the latest improvements it is the only one in the Hominion. Th« rounding machine ia for the; manufacture of (broom handles and curtain poles, the end of which will be turned on the lathes. There is a smaller machine of a similar pattern for finishing, off these articles. The sharpener is for pointing, the skewers after they have been cut the fe j ze and one revolution of the knivea fe sufficient to put a needle point on them. The band saw is ÜBed for fret work, and the circular saws for breaking down and cutting to size The timber to foe used in the manufacture oi all these articles i 3 New Zealand heech, of which there are est supplies in the Longwood A factory to this was running at (Pafanerston North, but it had to foe closed down because the proprietors could not get the timber thev wanted, and bem% So far irQm bush country the cost was too great. Mr Trail haa neither of these difficulties, die can get suitable timber m abundance, and at the vary lowest cost and such being the case, ho will bc ab i te to SU ppi y the whol^ Dominion and the Australian market too, for that matter, at rates that wall be able to .defy competition. Mr trail says there is excellent scope for. /the busfaess, and he is confident of a successful career.
