CHINA AND THE ALLIES

General Gaeelee, with the purpose of disgracing Paotingfu in the eyes of the Chinese because of the murders and mutilations of Europeans there, has destroyed their most venerated temple also the city gate town. The writers of private letters from the German force in Pekin deplore the butchery wherein they wero engaged. They state that 16 Chinese were tied together by their pigtails and they were ordered to shoot eight. One youth was spared after digging his own grave. They executed 7-i who were captured for shooting a German patrol all being bayonetted. The Allies, including the British, have occupied the Imperial tombs at Si Liug, faome 40 miles south-west of Pekin.
An Imperial edict haß been issued, adding Lnikumyi, vicery of Nankin, and Chanchitang, viceroyof Wuohang to the poaco Commissioners. The European diplomatists hare asked to neo Kangyi's head and Yuohien's body as proof of the statement that the latter suicided and the former was decapitatod. Not. 4. An Anglo-German force stormed Izekingkuan on the Shanghi frontier and met with stubborn resistance. Bengal Cavalry reseued an advanco narty of 80 Germans who had got into a dangerouß position. Five guns were captured and fifty Chinese killed. The European casualties were small.
