NOTES BY SPOKE. A St. Louis cyclist rode a Mile backwards in the marvellous time of 1 min 51 2-5 sec which is world's record for the distanc. The quarter was ridden in 38 3-ssecs. The one mile championship of Australasia, run in Adelaide, and won by Wrtlne, was done in 2min J 9 3-sfch sees. Local wheelmen should take note. At the same meeting an attempt was made to lower Lesna's 5mile Australian record which stands at 9mins 59secF, That is still the record. The relay bicycle ride from Bluff to Cbris'church, a distance of 400 miles, was finished in 24 hours 25 min. Clarkson's time for the last ]6 miles was under the half hour. It is reported in Paris that a combination of German manufactures has been formed to drive English and American goods—bicycles in particular —out of the German markets by underselling—and 25,000,000 marks have been subscribed in order to carry the plan into operation. Pivo hundred cyclists passed in review before General Booth at the celebration of the third-second anniversary oF the Salvation Armv at Chicago, and all of them were members of the Armv. Poo L"p, a Chinese laundry man, at Niles, Mich., on o!h September, won the 25-mile cycling event from a large field, be being the ten minute man. This \v->8 the limit, and there were two others on the some mark. Poo intends giving up his laundry business, and turning professional cyclist. In the six days' race at Boston (8 hours a day) disgraceful attempts were made by the public to prevent riders winning. One rider was given a dose of sleep mixture, another had emery powder blown into the bearings, aud a thii d had his tires filed so thin in the thread that Ihoy blew out.
