This line crossed the Channel by cable to Germany, and then by land lines ran over Germany, South Russia, Caucasus, Armenia, and Persia, to Teheran. At Teheran the wire was joined to a second line of the company, returning to Loudon by the same route. The lines were cleared for the experiment, and, at a given signal, the key of sender was pressed by the Prince of Wales. The instant that the button of the instrument was touched, click went the receiver. The current had bsen to Persia and back !”
