AUCKLAND BREACH OF PROMISE CASE.
The plaintiff, Caroline Parry, a domestic servant, sued George C/owthers, architect, for £2OO damages. The defendant did not appear. Evidence was given to show that the parties had even arranged the nuptial day, and the plaintiff had even ordered her trosseau, as well as given up her situation. Several letters were read to show the relations existing between the parties. In one of these defendant asked for a loan of £3, and oonolnded, "With fondest.lore from your true, loving George." She obtained a verdict for the full amount claimed.
