TAYLOR'S CREEK.

(from a correspondent.) A group of tourists visited the Waiau caves on New Year's Day, 1594. They were on their way to the world's first wonder, the Sutherland Falls. There were three ladies among the number, who decorated the whole party with life and spirit, and in reality the poet could not enumerate one-half of their admirable elegance and most refined eloquence. Be sure to place on record that they are the first lady tourists who passed this way en route for the lakes and Milford Sound. The first day the party drove sixty miles, and I am told that they finished the day's amusement with a grand concert. Then they retired to rest for the first night of camp life, viewing the stars while peace reigned in the camp till daylight next morning, but it is hard to say whether tbe ladies pronounced it comfortable. Nevertheless they turned out with the lark in the morning, happy and gay. As soon as the morning meal was over, Mr. Cameron, the driver, got up on his seat, ribbons in hand, ready for a start, and to the sound of 'all aboard' the hazy Takitimos echoed in fairy style. Without any more ceremony, Mr. Smith's four spirited bonny bays were in a lively trot making for Te Anau.

What a pity that the funds of the County Council are so very delicate as not to bear the pressure of opening a direct road to Lake Manipouri—the grandest of the two lakes.
