An American paper called Once a Weok offered prizes to readers who should name the most famous men and women living. Accordingly to the favor shown in the replies the editor gave Ilia dioision, and ho has awarded the first prize to the correspondent who drew up the following list: —Slatrsman, AY. E. Gladstone ; general, Count Yon Moltko ; novelist, Robert L. Stevenson ; poet, word Tennyson ; painter, Meissonier ; actor, Irving; vocalist, Adelina Patti; lawyer. Sir Charles Russell ; historian. B. A. Freeman ; scientist, Tyndall ; doctor. Pasteur; composer, Aerdi; enginec, Ferdinand Do Hess ops ; inventor, Edison.
