Birch (on behalf of the Nations Mortgage and Agency Company of N.Z., Ltd.) reports on the markets for week onding 16tb August, as follows : There is very little alterations to be noted in our markets, and business remains quiet. Shipments show a slijrht increase on the figures of the few preceding weeks, and they may be expected to increase considerably before very long. Wheat.—The demand for this cereal is still very sluggish, but as the Home market is fairly firm, and the Sydney one shows some slight signs of activity, we should not be at all surprised to see a movement here in the course of a few weeks. At present, values are quite nominal, at last week's rates, via, prime quality, 3s 7d to 3s 8d; ordinary, 3s 4d to 3s sd, delivered in town, sacks weighed in. —Fowls' wheat is good property at from 2s 6d to 2s 7d, on trucks, for good quality. Oats.—This market shows very little activity, in sympathy with Melbourne, which is at present dull and flat. We see very little prospect of any advance in values for the next few months; although it is certain that Melbourne will have to draw on New Zealand for supplies before the Victorian new crop is brought in. We quote prime milling 2s 5d ppr bushel; feed, 2s 4d to 23 Sd, on trucks at country stations, sacks weighed in. Ryegrass.—Prime keivy machine dressed samples are in request, and command 4s 3d to 4s 6d, ex store, sacks extra. Timothy.—Prime qualities are scarce and are worth quite4jjd tosd, exstore, lnvercargill.
