HOME AND FOREIGN. [press association telegrams.) London, July 6. It is considered that the parleying between England and France with respect to the conversion of the Egyptian debts has ended. The St James’ Gazette states that Sir Hercules Robinson will contest a seat in the House of Commons at the general election in the Home Rule interest against Mr George Wyndham, one of the private secretaries to the Hon. A. J. Balfour. The sentence of three months’ imprisonment passed on Mr Charles A. V. Conybeare, M.P. for Camborne, Cornwall, for aiding and abetting the Plan of Campaign, has been confirmed on appeal. 1 'J The Hon. Robert Bruce, M.P., for Fifeshire West, having resigned his seat in tho House of Commons, Mr Birrel, a Home Rule candidate, has been elected by a majority of 800 over the Conservative condidato, Earl Wemyss. It is reported that the difficulty which recently arose over the Behring Straits fisheries has been amicably arranged. The officers of the H.M.S. Calliope are to be promoted. July 8. Sir Hercules Robinson has declined to stand for Dover in the Home Rule interest. He says that although he is opposed to the policy of the Government in Ireland he is not willing to become the catspaw of tho Opposition. Five hundred of the Irish Rifles have been sent up to Assouan, tho numbers of the Dervishes having increased greatly. Paris, July 6.
It has been ascertained that there are 213 miners entombed in the pit at St. Etienne.
