A catalogue of 7400 bules were submitted at. auction and elicited fair competition. One hundred and seventy nine thousand bales are available for the present sale. The series close on February 12i.1i. The Union Bank of Australia hare declared a dividend for tho past half year at the rate of 16 per cent, per annum, and carries forward and places to the reserve £SOOO. Wheat —Adelaide, ex warehouss, is 2s lower —37 s ; do, New Zealand, 28s to 355. Flour Adelaide, Is lower—2ss. Russia has proposed to the European Powers that further action be taken owing to il.e refusal of Greece and Servia to comply witli the terms of the circular requiring thein to disarm. Jan. 20. Tenders for the Otago Huvbour loan of £150,000, at 5 per cent,., were opened to-day. Tenders at £lO7 8s receive 70 per cent, of their applications, and abo?e that in full. The Agents-General for the various co.onips met to-day when it was rosolved to interview the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Michael Hicko Beach, »nrl urge upon him the adoption of a shi ling duty on Australian wines, not, including those of an alcoholic strength of thirty decrees. The Government are in receipt of a despatch from Colonel Stanley, Secretary of Stale for the Colonies, offering Norfolk Island to the colony of New South Wales. A reply has been sent accepting the offer, subject to the approval of the Colonial Parliament Jan. 21. Tho annual salo of Mr Andrew Town's yearlings took place to-day in tho presence of a largo attendance of buyers. The horses realised an average of 271 guineas. Twelve hundred guineas was paid for tho siste" to Warwick, while a brother to lolanthe sold for 1050 guineas. Mr W. Cooper became purchaser of a colt by Darebin—Atholine, for 1000 guineas. Lord Carrington was present during the sale and bought a colt and two fillies.
