Of these about 40 were indifferent half-fatted old milkers and strippers, but the balance included medium to heavy-weights, nearly all prime heef. It should he noted that at this off season no markets in the Colonies offers such first-class beef as may ue seen at Burnside Yards. On the whole, "although cattle brought nearly last ■week’s values, and in some instances over, beef cannot be quoted above late rates. Todav best bullocks brought from £lO to £l2 12s 6.1; medium, £6 10s to £9; cows, £5 to£9. Fat ’ Sheep—l47o penned—a large proportion shorn. The limited supply last week left the trade short, and competition throughout, especially for shorn sheep, was brisk. It was satisfactory to notice that the majority of the shorn were evenly and well clipped; nevertheless, in some of the boss pens occasional sheep would remind one of the customary shearing 20 years ago. Because of the short supply, prices advanced from 2s to 3s per head. Best crossbred wether? in wool brought up to 19s 93; shorn do to 17s 61; medium, 14s to 16s 6d ; merinos, fair quality, shorn, 8s to 9s; v< ry inferior merinos (in woo;s itnd a couple of pens of young crossbred) brought up to 6s. Fat Lambs. —413 penned—an over supply. A large proportion could hardiy bo classed as fit for immediate trade purposes, and for inferior lots biddings were slack. The range of prices was from 4s to 11s. Bigs, —157 forward. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold 106 up to 42s for baconers, at. from 22s to 28s for porkers, and at from 4s 61 to 12s for suckers. Store Cattle. —There is a demand for wellbred stores, but nono offering. Sheepskins. Notwithstanding the lower values of wool, competition is brisk for well’woollod skins in good condition. Crossbreds brino —for prime up to 4s 3:1; low to medium do, Is to 2- Gd; merinos, prime, to 4s Id ; low .to medium, 9d to 2s 3d; pelts are world 2d to 9d, lambskins. 3d to lid. Hi les. —Too supply for the week being rather in excess of requirements, the market was slightly in favor of buyers. Prime-con-ditio io I heavy hides fetch up to 4d ; medium, 3 (cl to 31 d ; inferior and badly flayed, 2d to 21rd. Tallow. —Prices, in accord with Homo advices, steadily decline; good to prime bring 16s to 20s; medium, 13s to 15s ; rough fat, 8s to 12s per cwt. ■Wheat. —The supply of choice samples is extremely limited, and for prime parcels of velvet and tuscan, 3s 4d to 3s 5d can be obtained readily : medium to good is worth 3s to 3s 3d ; inferior and fowl feed, 2s 8d to 2s lOd. Oats. —A remarkably quiet market. Buyers for export arc frequently hampered by freight exigencies, and cannot operate steadily. Supplies having come forward freely, and the demand less brisk, prices are Slightly easier—viz., for best milling about 2s; stout bright feed, Is lOd to Is lid; inferior, Is id to Is 8d per bushel. Barley. —Business stagnant. Small lots of milling have realised 2s to 2s 9d ; feed do, about 2s. Ryegrass Seed. —N o transactions to note, but purchases could now be made considerably under previous quotations. Potatoes. —An entire collapse in the market. Derwcnta soiling at from 30s to 50s per ton. Horse Market.—Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows : —We held our usual sale on Saturday, when there was a keen demand for both medium and very heavy draught geldings, provided they wore young.
