THE WESTERN SOUNDS OF NEW ZEALAND.

Approaching the west .coast coming from Australia, one is confronted by q, huge line of precipitous cliffs, disclosing in many places a range of snow-capped , hills behindhand clothed with luxuriant vegetation down to the water’s edge. . . . It is, in fact, difficult to-mark the entrance , of any of the sounds, so narrow are they and difficult, to distinguish from mere recesses in the rock line.
