CLOSING ROADS.

Sir.—At last meeting of Wallace '■ County Council some of the members made statements regarding the closing of road through section 83, WaSra district, that are apt to mislead the public. Bnch being the case we feel disposed to lay the truth before the public, and allow the public to judge for themselves. In your issue of 15th August, the chairman of the meet,ing of ratepayers is reported to havo stated- that the majority was in favor of the proposal to elose the road. ..That may he true, but ib was by.one. vote oily, and with the aid of four votes thai were"gfven by ratepayers outside the riding, quite disinterested, and living at a distance of from five to twenty-five miles from the immediate district. :Theaagain.'our member; »Ir Ellis, stated at the CotmcameeflflgthAt some people who signed the petitionf against the closing of the road were neither settlers in nor residents of the distriot. Now, Mr Editor, there were only four that signed the petition who are not owners of land or ratepayers, but they are managers of large freehold estates and residents of the district, and as such are all direotly interested in keeping the road open.
