Burnside, July 29. ■i'Fat Cattle—l 23 head yarded,'the greater portion, light-weights and only medium quality, with a few pens prime beasts. The moderate supply caused brisker competition than has been observable for some time past, and good beef brought an advance of quite 3s 6d per 1001 bon last quotations. Best bullocks brought from £8 15s to £lll7s 6d; others, £5 10s to £8 10s; cows, £5 to £8 7s

Gd. Fat Calves.—None forward. Fat Sheep.—2oss penned, 1184 of which were crossbreds and 871 merinos. Of the latter a few pens were really prime, but the bulk were littlo better than stores. The

crossbreds were for the most part good useful mutton, with a small proportion of prime i sheep and about an equal number of inferior. For really good crossbreds and merinos competition, was animated, more particularly during the early part of the day, and a slight advance on late rates was made, but as the sales progressed bidding was less brisk, and prices’'more in favor of buyers. Best crossbreds brought 13s 6d to 15s 6d; others, 10s Gd__to 13s; merinos, 7s Gd to 13s 9d, Pigs.—3l9 penned. For bacon pigs and porkers there was good demand at prices fully equal to late rates, but stores and 1 suckers were not much sought after, and sales were difficult to effect. Bacon pigs sold at 35s to 5Gs ; porkers, 21s to 325; suckers ■and slips, 7s to 20s. Sheepskins.— At the usual weekly sales competition was again more active, especially for green skins, which slightly improved in value. Dry crossbreds, low to medium, brought Is 1 7d to 2s 7d; do good to prime, 3s to 4s 4d; dry merinos, lid to 3s 7d; green crossbreds, 3s to 4s Id; do merinos, 2s 4d to 3S 9d ; ■ lambskins, 7d to 2s 6d; dry pelts, Id

to7d. Eabbitskins. —The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report :~our London circular, dated June 5, received per s. s. Ruapehu, reports as follows: “At the ““periodical public sales held on the 29th ult., 1071 bales were catalogued, and of these 756 bales found purchasers under the hammer. There was a good attendance of buyers, and a better demand was experienced than was the case at the auction held on April 2, but a further decline in values took place in almost all instances. Good to prime pelted New Zealand skins brought last sale rates to Id per lb decline ; while common stout pelted descriptions were slow of sale, and marked a reduction of fully Id to 2d per lb. Good Australian varieties, which were in small supply, sold without material alteration; but low wormy parcels were on saleable at lower rates. Black aud fawn were in request and realised about late rates. Next auction will be hold on August 7.” Locally the sales have 1 been well attended, and prime skins continue in good demand at late rates. Fair to good winter skins bring 12d to 14Id ; late , summer skins, lOd to lOfd; inferior sorts in

pool- request at from 2d to 9d. Hides. —An active demand, and prices firm for all descriptions, local buyers finding difficulty iii supplying their needs. Ml'ullovV.—Prices continue low, and some vendors purpose shipping ou their own account. Quotations are: Best rendered, 22* ; jiiepihm, 17s to 20s; inferior, 14s; rough fat, 11s t ■ 11s per cwt. Wheat. Since last report there has been a decided change for the better. Millers are more disposed to operate, and prices have hardened not only for prime velvet and Tuscan but for other classes as well. Quotations are: For prime milling Tuscan and white velvet, 3s Id to 3s 3d ; red straw, 2s 91 to 3s Id; medium milling sorts, 2s 7‘l to 2s lid; inferior and chick fee i, Is 9d to 2s fid per bushel.
