WASTE LANDS BOARD.

f’’;Gr. Morton,- holder of a deferred payment section at Hodgkinson, appeared in reference to a complaint made against him of non-compliance with the conditions. He explained that. He had also bought three cash sections, and the carpenter employed by him had accidentally built his house op. one of them instead of on the deferred ‘payment land, Morton being, away shearing at the time. He had ploughed all the sections, and was con sfcantly oii the deferred payment section.—iNo action taken. . . I'With reference to the application of and D. Crowe, holders of deferred payment section 93, Wairio, to purchase their allotment, the Land Department, Wellington, to whom the matter had been referred, intimated that if the applicants desired to pay up .their unpaid payments they might be allowed to do so —any payments uSade [; since capitalised to go to their credit. They should not, however, he allowed to pay up the capitalised siim until after six years’ residence. The chairman explained tbatthe application httd °been referred to the Minister ojyxhg; to the parties after capitalising their payments, having found that the clause as to residence would interfere with their arrangement. They consequently wished to retrace their steps, hut the Minister’s reply was unfavor able to that being done. .' T;. Connor having applied to have deferred payment section 2, block 8, Waimatuku, declared open for cash, the Board, after hearing Banger Musseu’s report, declined the application. .A: report was .also read from the same officer in reference to a reduction in the price of the unsold sections in Wairnatuku towiiship. He considered thptsSß peracrefor the cash allotments would be sufficient,with a proportionate reduction in those open on deferred payinent.—-Consideration of the recommendation was postponed.

The “Watchman” thus scores a point against the Hon. Mr Stoat“Mr Stout, some time since, when taking the chair at one of Mr Massey’s lectures at Wellington, the subject being ,I'he Historical Jesus or the Mythical Christ,’ concluded his remarks by saying ‘That the record of the life of Christ was one ■which all men should study, and it men had emulated His example it would be better for humanity to-day.’ This utterance of Mr Stout’s appears to us to place him on the horns of a dilomna. Jesus was either what he said he was, or he was not. Mr Stout believes that he was not what he assumed to be. If men therefore emulated His example, they would have to emulate the example of one of The greatest impostors that ever appeared on. this ea;th. .
