THE ISLANDS OF THE FREE.
[Music bx Heeu Benno Sohebek] The blast of war from lands afar
Sweeps o’er the swelling foam ; The Yulture screams, the Lion dreams No longer in his home ! Ad bravo hearts leap on land and deep To guard the kingdoms three— The triple crest on ocean’s breast, The Islands of the Free. Though far away we’re linked to-day With kinsmen o’er the sea;
We’re one in heart, though far apart, The Islands of the Free!
From Freedom’s post, on Britain’s Coast. We, brought the precious seed, By Baron’s bold, in days of old, Thresh’d out at Runnymede , Our country’s name, our fathers’ fame. Are ours to guard, and we Have loyal bands with willing hands, In Islands of the Free!
Though far away wo’/e linked to-day With kinsmen o’er the sea; We’re one in heart, though far apart, The Islands of the Free!
As pioneers of all the years. We lead the nations’ van ; And this our cause—" Enlighten’d laws! The dignity of man!” ‘ For this we’ll fight with manly might; We’ll make invaders flee, Should they approach, or dare encroach On Islands of the Free. Though far away, we’re linked to-day With kinsmen o’er the sea; We’re one in heart, though far apart, The Islands of the Free!
