WASTE LANDS BOARD.
(From the “ News.”) Thursday, March 19.
J. Stanton, Riverton, inquired if the land now being surveyed at Otaitai Bush would be sold on deferred payment?—To be informed that it will be offered on that system.
P. Price, Wairlo, appeared in reference to his alleged non-residence on his d.p. section in the Wairio district. He urged domestic reasons in extenuation, and assured the Board that he would he able to live on the land within a month. —The Board accepted this assurance, Mr Price to comply with all the conditions within six weeks.
Mr Durbridge, Engineer Wallace County Council, asked the Board to reserve the following allotments for the use of that body; —Part of section 10, block 4, Aparima; section 63a, block 2, Longwood ; and section 35, township of Hodgkinson, The two first applications were granted—the former subject to the approval of Mr McKay, Native Commissioner (the land having been originally reserved for half-castes). With regard to section 35, the Chairman pointed out that the hind had been gazetted as open for sale on deferred payments. Dr Durbridge said the section was wanred for road-making purposes. It would be a great saving if the road could be taken through it. It was ultimately decided that, subject to a letter being received from the Council offering to purchase a section, the land will be withdrawn from the deferred payment system and made a cash allotment. Two tendirs were received for the lease of section 5, block 1, Longwood, under the Perpetual Leasing clauses o' the Act. That cf J. L. Young was the highest—2s 3d per acra per annum—and it was accordingly accepted, —James H. Young made the highest offer, viz., 2s 2d per acre, for sections 6 and 1, blocks 1 and 15 respectively, in the same district. In connection with these sections the Board considered the request from a number of Orepuki miners to reserve two chains on each si 'e of Grinds one Creek, (jhe 1 nd be ng auriferous. It was stated that if the application were granted it would reduce the area applied for by ifr J. H. Young bv about 30 acres. Applicant said he would not object to the reserve if it were m-rely wanted to give an outfall for laud worked higher up. Mr J aiaes P. Young, whose offer for section 6 was a penny lnw«r than Mr J. H. Young’s, offered to take the land subject to the reserve being male. He understood the miners wanted the two chains for residence areas Mr James p. Young claimed that he was entitled to section 1, the other tender being made subject to section 6 being granted in, toio. —Ultimately the Board accepted J. P. Young’s offer of 2s Id per acre for section 1 (it being regarded as the only application), and J. H, Young’s tender of 2s 2d for section 6. Mr Cowan thought that the reserve asked for should be made before the land was granted. —He moved accordingly, but the am ndment was not seconded.—The Chairman said the Board would gladly have made the reserve had the application boon sent in before the land was advertised as open for lease.
T. Casey applied to complete the purchase of his section in the Wairio.—Ranger to report.
The following deferred payment applications were granted;—?. Davis, section 17, block 2, Centre Hill; J. C. Shearer, section 6, block 1, Drummond.
