Customs revenue for the week ended 15th Aug., 1884.

DUNEDIN MARKETS. Messrs Weight, Stephenson, and Co. report for the week ending August 13 as follows

Fat Cattle—Hie market was well supplied, 2&8 head being yarded. The demand was slack, and prices as compared with last week s showed no change. We sold 63 head as follows: 6 bullocks nt from £8 to £8 17s Gd ; 19 head buliocks a' np to £9 2s 6 I and cows at up to £7 15s; 17 bullocks at from £7 7s 6d to £8 10s ; and 21 cows at up to £6 7s Gd. We quote prime beef at from 20s to 22s 6J per 1001 b. Fat Sheep-2051 were pennel, including about 700 merinos. Under fair competition the whole of these charged hands at. about last week’s rates. We sold 982 as follows : 524 m.iid' n half-bred ewes at from 16s 9d to 17s 6I ; 60 crossbreds at from IGs 6.1 to Vs 3d ; 112 crossbreds at from 15s Gd to 16s 9 1 ; 210 merino wethers at from 13s t> 13s 3d ; 76 merino wethers at 12s 91. Wo quote prime mutton at 3d per lb. Privately we have sold 360 halfbrei ewes and wethers Rt 18s. t ... . . jjjgs—9B came forward, and met with tair sale. We soi l 50 at from 16s to 63s each. The ' attendance of buyers was large, and crossbreds are r. ported to be selling rather dearer than at the close of last series. Locally, business is confined t > sales of a few lots of filmongers’ wool. Shetpskins —We held our weekly sale on Monday, when a large catalogue was submitted." Grain—Wheat : The demand for milling quali.ies is i mproving, and prices are if anything higher. We quote prime milling at f-om 3s 5d to 3s Gd ; medium, 3s to 3s 3d ; and inferior, from Is 9d to 2s 9d. Oats : During 1 lie week a large business has been done in this cereal at prices, fully Id per bushel in advance of recent values. We quote choicest milling at 2s 2)4 per bushel; heavy short bright feed, 2s lid to 2s 21; ordinary short feed, 2s Oid to 2s Id; and inferior and long oats, Is lOd to 2s. Barley : Prime mailing samples are inquired for, and these are saleable at up to 4s 3d. Ryegrass—A demand exists for good machine-dressed seed at from 3s 9d to 4s. —o Melbourne. August 12. Toe manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports of the local markets ns follow* : Wheat, 3s lOd to 3s lid ; market dull and drcoping. Malting barley, 3s 9d to 4s 4d; prices show slightly improved tendency. New Zealand oats—feeding sorts, 2s lid to 3s id, wiih a tendency to harden. There is an active demand for railing sorts, and prices are firm at 3s to 3s 3d. New Zealand oats (under bond), 2s 3d to 2s sd.
