Property belonging to Mr W. Bad}' and. Son, was found upon them. On the 29th Descottes, No. 11,555, and Julien, No. 10,597, escaped at 6 a.m. from the colliery wharf. On the '26th, at .Bourail, due Übere escaped in the night, and on the some night four escaped from Ouegra, At Gomen also on the 2Gth the canaques recaptured a convict who escaped a month before. On the same day the Übere Konsseau, No. 1521, was taken and imprisoned in the peninsula for larceny and robbery. A Übere named Escoufiare was arrested on board the Sydney just before her departure. He made no attempt to escape, and had not been guilty of any offence during the time - he had worked on board. It is suposed that he has escaped from his appointed district, as when questioned about his prison career he could not explain his presence in Noumea. -He was afterwards liberated on the production of his papers. The criminal Bezel, No. 6990, who escaped some days before from Montravel Camp, was retaken on the 28th June in the Yalley of the Tir. On the 29th at the Yalley of the Infantry, one escapee was killed by the local police iti front of Lareitie's shop, where he had gone to get food. He has been identified as the convict Brique, No; 13,525, who escaped from the collieries ou 17th, f A purse was found upon him, with a 20 franc gold piece which had belonged to Liout.Col. Pous. The clothes' he - wore bad - belonged-to- Mr Carter.^’-He is supposed to have been' an accomplice in the many robberies recently committed in the town. The criminal Gueaut, No. 12,552, escaped from the- penal work at the Place d ’ jLnnes, was retaken the following day in the 1 nfiiiitry Valloy. During the night of the 29th a burglary was committed at the house of 'M. Gaveau. ‘A barque was . toied fiuin her anchorage on the night of the 30th June. The vessel belonged to M. Geroiimo, Was moored to 1 the schooner Telegraph to be re--1 inured id the Bay of the Mdzelle. This barque was prigiuallytbe three-masted Bordeaux. She is painted white with a red lino round. The coast is being ■searched. Eight criminals escaped together on the first July from the camp at Boulapari in a barge belonging to the penal administration. On the same . day the Übere Gonaux, No. 1948, was -retaken and confined for outrages against Government officers. On the 27th June three' convicts escaped from Nou, one from Dumbia, ■ one from - Bourail ; on the 28th, one - I'rom Nou, -one from Dumbia ; on the 29th, two from Coetempie. The re-arrests from the Ist to 7th July were larger than in the previous week. Eight escapees from different places were retaken. Bomby, No. 4U13, accused of attempt to murder a military inspector, was acquitted by the second council of war. Pro I let fount Merse, a notorious criminal, has again escaped. Pour escaped from the coal mines on Tuesday, July Bth.
