Taa question of the day is “ ensilage but we want something “practical ” about it. Every paper we see tells us “how” to make it, whether to “ salt ’* it or not, and what pressure to use, and so on; but we are not told in what state to cut our grass or clovers —-early or late ? Or how far we must encourage, or prevent, the “fermentation” going on, and how, if possible to do so ? Or what are the best mixtures of seeds to use ? Some of the samples we see are decidedly sour, others have a pleasant, agreeable taste ; and a third lot nave a “ happy medium.” And, further, with what results is it, in these stages, best adapted fortue use of our cattle, not only to ensure quantity of milk, but also the health of our stock ?
