Nine members of the House of Eopresentatives were present at a Chamber of Commerce meeting to consider the present increased railway tariff. A resolution condemnatory of the increase and in favor of the railways being managed by a non-politi-cal board, was carried unanimously in a numerously attended meeting. It was decided to levy a rat* 1 of 3s 4J through the district concerned, in terms of the District Railways Act, for the year ending March, ISS3. As another year is nearly up the rate will actually amount to Gs Sd.
