WASTE LAND BOARD.

At Thursday’s meeting the following business of district importance, which we extract from the “News,” was transacted" '

Mr W. H Smith applied for an extension of lime in his lime lease on section 12a, block 1, Aparima Hundred. He was intending to build a very large kiln, and be found the time would be insufficient to recoup him for the outlay. Th ■ lease was for seven years at present, but he wished to have it extended for 21 years. —Mr Denniston thought there should be no objection to the extension, if a guarantee of a large expenditure were given. The applicant stated th at the erection of the works would cost £SOO, and he would be able to turn out lime at a very cheap rate to the settlers. He submitted a plan of the proposed works.—The applicant was informed that if he went on with his works he could get the extension ef time when thev were in operation. Mr J. A. Colman wrote complaining of the state of the roads leading from deferred payment sections 324 to 200, Tariugatura.. The roads were in a bad state, and he had expended some money in erecting culverts across the creeks. There was still money accruing from the sections for expenditure. —It was stated that the Southland County Council had asked the Board’s sanction to expenditure in the vicinity some time back, which had been granted, and it was resolved to draw the Council’s attention to the fact of the non-expenditure of the money. John Arnott applied to have 300 acres in Mason’s Bay, Stewart Island, put up for lease by auction, and it was resolved that the land be put up for lease by auction'for.a term of seven years.

Mr P. Koely wrote complaining of the state of the road between sections 239 and 240, Taringaf ura, asking the Board to compel the Wallace County to repair them. He applied to both Councils, but could get nothing done The road was in the Wallace County —near its junction with the Southland County. The attention of the Wallace!County had been previously drawn to the matter by the Board; and' it . was stated that the Board could do nothing further in the matter.

Mr Beck applied forVpiece of land opposite section 160, Waifio, under tbe Forest Trees Planting Act.—Referred to the Ranger. i-ii-L
