The Suez Cana], which was blocked by a sunken vessel, has been resumed. A startling innovation in the practice of tbs Presbyterian Church was suggested on Wednesday evening by Mr E. B. Cargill, Speaking in the Synod on the difficulty of providing ministers for faraway districts in the interior (says the “ Otajo Daily Times”) he said he thought it would be desirable to borrow an institution from another Church, and impose celibacy—at least up to the age of 30 or 35 years. “Very oflen it happened that young probationers arrived on their shores who were quite incapacitated from taking charge of these outlying disiricts owing to their possession of a wife and two or three bairns. The brethren were evidently astonished as well as amused by this view of the case, and vigorously applauded the Eev.Mr Bannerman when he rebuked Mr Cargill for forgetting that it was not good for man to be alone! The canvasser for a new paper wrote to the publisher of “Truth”: “We note your advertisement in +lm “World.” We will insert it at 25 per cent less than that paper charges.” The publisher of “Truth” replied: . the advertisement for nothing ', 6 ac cept your terms ; please send cheque for the difference.”
