A Mararoa correspondent writes This riding is divided from the Waian riding hj a small stream, but strange to say, there is no direct way of traffic or postal communication between the two ridings. A very small sum would cope with the difficulty, numerous hardships and tbs different inconveniences encountered on account of the delay of opening a few miles of a road from tie Excelsior Yalley to Blackinount. However, there is evidently some one with a nose sufficiently long enough to dip into the unforcseen|resonrees of this region, and who certainly has the good wishes of tho whole community for moving the wheel in the right direction, as we have now one of the Grovernment field surveyors (Mr Black), surveying a roadlino through this long-forgotten portion of the Wallace County. We wish him success and many a happy return of the season. Some twenty years ago we had postal communication once a week between these two p’aces, and now it takes no less than 15 or 20 days to get a letter from the Waiau ridinw, A letter of (ho greatest importance leaving Mara'oa post office has to visit the Elbow and Invercargill before it directs its course to Blackmount post office, and the two offices are only 15 miles apart. That tells you how wo are situated through this neglected piece of public work ; but now we hope that all this will soon be redded, and that the old stylo of postal communication will be renewed for the good of the general public.
