To-day was very generally observed here as a holiday. Numerous amusements were provided, and the marine excursions in particular were largely patronised. A serious tragedy occurred at Waterloo, a suburban township about two and a-half miles from the city. A woman of the vagrant class, named Catherine Owens, was found cruelly outraged and murdered. The perpetrators of the crime have not yet been discovered.
