In the House to-day a, long discussion took place on Mr, Murray’s motion for’leave to introduce a bill to fix the.-duration’ of' Earliam’erit, Which ■ was i opposed by Mr Barron.""-Leave was,granted. On a division by 38 te 34, the bill-was read,a first.time... Ori a motion to fix the second reading for next week, Mr Barron moved that t’ e date be -six 'months. Mr Hall inti-' mated that the Government would at the proper time oppose any attempt to alter tlip Triennial Act. ; Messrs Maoandrew,, Gisborne,. G ; eorge and others admitted that the Triennial Act was amistake, but opposed;any alteration till after next election. After debate Mr Barron’s amendment was negatived by 37 to 34' ' In reply to questions, tho Government stated that the Otago-Central, Middle Island (West Coast), Wakatipu, and : Wellington .Railways Bill and Redistribution Bills, would be brought down as soon as the'no-confi-dence debate was over. .-: ;.- . In Committee of .Supply, a resolution, authorising the issue of £200,000 deficiency bills, was passed in Council to-day. Consideration of the Licensing Bill :n Committee was postponed for a week.
