Fox proposed as an amendment —“ That the Licensing Committee shall consist of persons who shall be annually elected by the ratepayers of the district.” Oh a division 19 voted for the clause as printed, and 34 for the amendment. An amendment proposed by Mr Stewart, to limit such licenses to the provincial districts in which they already existed, was carried by 37"t0 2-7. A further amendment by Mr Tole, prohibiting any other business being carried on in the same premises as those licensed to sell by the bottle* was also Carried by §9 to 28. At the adjonrnmeiit the Committee were considering the proposal to strike the clause out altogether. On the House resuming in the Evening* clause 31, “ Bottle licensing,” was struck out on the voices.
