THE INVERCARGILL CO’S CLAIM.

TO THIS EDI TOE. Sir, —"Nek being often in town I c'id not see Mr Port’s letter till yesterday. Everybody for themselves, and though I have often seen Longwoo 1 reports in the Invercargill papers, I wondered who wrote tho.n. I expect it was some miner living there, as they always seemed to give the correct thing. Mr Editor, I only want to speak about our claim, the Invercargill, as Mr Port’s statements, if taken for facts, go to injure it. He talks a lot about falsehood and truth, bat I don’t think he can be very particular himself. He says we haven’t gjt a reef t welve feck wide with gold in it. He knows well enough that we have, but it doesn’t suit his claim to say so, or let anybody else say so. But, Mr Editor, there is, and if you do the same a« the gentleman who wrote to the Invercargill papers, and you can take a dishful and try for yourself, and anybody else can do the same. Mr Port must not think that because the claim is not on his line of reef that it is no good, because anybody will allow that the stone is as good-looking as any on the field, and there is any quantity of it. Trustingin fairness to our claim, and to both parties, you will put this letter in your paper, I am, be., James Beveridge. Riverton, August SI, 1830.
