WASTE LANDS BOARD.

We extract from the “News” the following report of the business transacted at the Waste Lands Board meeting on Thursday:— Schmoll and Co applied for a sawmill area at Orepuki., Held over fourteen, days for the report of the Ranger. Charles Frentz applied for leave of exemption from residence on his deferred payment section in Longwood district., An axtension of two years was granted, the requisite amount of cultivation having been made. R. Riddell, personally and by letter, brought under the notice of the Board the desirability of reducing the upset pri 3e of deferred payment sections in block Y., Longwood district. He stated that the ground now open for selection was wet and inferior in quality, and broken by peat bogs and bush; not worth more than 25s per acre, instead of £3, the price fixed for it. Referred to the Chief Surveyor to report on. ■■ • . - : ‘ : On behalf of, the farmers of the district an application was made for a section in the town of Calcium onwhich to build a public hall. Applicant was directed to send a petition in for the next meeting of the Board. A number of applications were made in duplicate for deferred payment sections.; they were ordered to be advertised. One of these was by Henry Hirst, who was held to be excluded from making a fresh' application by a recent Judge’s opinion,, and that the Board could not entertain the application.—ln another case, that ot Mr Turnbull app icati -n had .. been made for more than one, applicant apparently doing so in the fear of 1 opposition, which waa the case. It was resolved that they be informed that one of the sec.ions applied for was granted, and that they could not compete for the others.
