Longwood Notes.
A foree.l sale by auct'Mi of 500 shares in the Longwood Co.'s claim took place at Invercarjrill, on Tuesday. The prices realised by Mr Todd ranged from 6s 3d to 6s 6d per share. The Great Extended Co. have neoeptel a tender for a 300 ft urive. The proprietors intend to throw the claim, into u company. At a. meeting of the shareholders in the Longwood Co., held last Saturday, Mr Pitch, a gentleman stated to be highly competent for the position, was appoiitte I working manager. It is expected that stone will be put through the Pianeer Battery on Monday or Tuesday It has not yet transpired whether the proprietors intend to celebrate the occasion in the orthodox manner. A very valuable discovery was made in the Balmoral claim on Thursday—second only •!» importance to llrnt in Printz's claim, if the reports which have r-ached us are correct, an I we have no reason to doubt the truth thereof, as we have received our information from a trustworthy ssurce. A reef two feet wide was struck' on the day named, which on being feted rivallei in richness the prospects from Printz's claim. It is not the same reef as Printz's, bnt run* parallel to that one, at an obtuse angle, and judging from I Jus direction wf these two reels, it is probable they will juiietioui:i the Duffer or Australasian ground. The Surprise Co. are sanguine as to having Port'd line of reef, as it can be traced to within a few feet of their claim, near the surface. They are about finishing u gued hut close to the workings. The Duffer Co. are getting well m with their tunnel, and there is every indication of their being close to the reef. Ths Fossieker Co. are pushing ahead in thennew tunnel. We hear Sloan's (alluvia!) party are on good gold this week. The track is almost imp-usable. The two men placed by the County Council to keep il in repair, arc far from sutli.ieut to make it riable. , Mr Yuille has finished his survey of Print* s lino of reef, and ban now CMunenped surveying the claims atiPort's line. One of the Greorge Creek party was down this week for supplies, and stated tiiey were well satisfied with their prospe-jts. The Hit or Miss, D.miels Xo 1 and 2, are tunnelling and are making gojd progre-s, ts&ih being sanguine of proximity to the rcet.
