A CONTRADICTION.

TO THE EDITOB. Sih, —In your issue of Saturday last an individual writing under the nom de flume of “ Mistress Murphy ” falsely accuses me of neglecting my duties as Mayor in not attending tbe meeting convened re the Irish Famine Fund. Allow me to Btate 3 for the information of “ Mistress Murphy ” and others who were not at the place of meeting, that I had a substitute there to act on my behalf, who waited for half-an-hour past the advertised hour, when only two persons put in an appearance—neither of them “ Mistress Murphy.” And as it was the second attempt to get a meeting formed, I think my substitute acted wisely in allowing the matter to drop. It may have been on account of “Mistress Murphy” having been refused admittance to the banquet that he grudged me the pleasure of being present.—l am, &c., James Feid.
