GROPER'S BUSH SCHOOL.

A meeting of the Groper’s Bash School Committee was held in the Sehoolbouse on Monday evening, 26th ult., when Dr Hodgkin son and Mr Dennisfcon were nominated as members for the Education Board. A meeting of householders took place immediately after to hear the annual report and elect a new committee. Mr Reidie having been voted to the chair, the report of the out-going committee, was read and unanimously adopted. The report stated that during the year eight meetings of committee had been held, and everything had proceeded harmoniously and satisfactorily. The attendance at the school had increased considerably, the average for last quarter being 49 and the roll number 69, as against an average of 38 and a roll number of 49 for the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The school bad consequently been greatly overcrowded of late, and much inconvenience incurred. The committee had made repeated applications to the Board for more accommodation, and they could now congratulate themselves or. having their request acceded to, for the Board had granted them a new school to accommodate 75 pupils. As the timber was already being brought on to the ground, and the contractors had commenced the work, thejr hoped that ere long a shapely as well as commodious schoolroom would take the place of the present dilapidated structure. T he school had during the year been supplied with several large sized maps, making its stock m that line pretty well complete. The entrance to the school had also been lately gravelled, the

teacher’s garden and house had been fenced in with wire netting, and the latter had also been provided with a well. Messrs Todd and Graham had given a load of lignite to the school, for which the thanks of the committee were due them. Towards the end of last year, Mrs Jolly, at the request of the committee, had undertaken the duties of sewing mistress, and had now been acting in that capacity for about fourteen months. To compensate her for her services subscription lists had been drawn up and distributed among members of committee. They regretted that the calls had not been responded to in all cases as freely as could have been desired ; and they took this opportunity of reminding parents that a /more regular attendance of their children at school would soon raise the average to the number (50) that would entitle them to a sewing mistress from the Board, and so relive them of any further outlay in that direction. The election of a new Committee wps next proceeded with, and the result of the ballot showed that the following gentlemen were chosen: —Messrs' Johaston, Esidie, Camming, Carmichael, Officer, Willett, and Borland. Intimation was then given that the first meeting of the new Committee would take place in the sehoolhouse on Friday evening, the 30th ult. At the meeting oh the 30th ult, Mr Reidie was re-elected Chairman.
