SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A nnefcing of the School Committee was held on Thursday evenin'?. Present : Messrs James Hein (Chairman), Bailey, Murchie, and Ilev. T. E. Ash. Tlie minutes of previous tqpeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman read Miss Smith’s resignation us mistress; a letter was also read from Mr Nichol, tile gentleman elected as second master, staling that he could not accept th“ posit ion, as he nad, since he applied for the situation, receive I the appointment of teacher to a school in Canterbury. .The Chairman intimated that ho luil again advertised for a mistress and second master, the consideration of applications for which were then proceeded with. Aftei r-u liu ' the testimonials of each applicant, the C >mm ttee. unanimously agreed to recommend the appointment of Mrs Dour, whoso qiia'ifications and testimonials were of a very high order. received, and tins the Committee unanimously c onsiderod was not suitable. to From information received from the Inspector, the Chairman .stated that some half-a-dozen teache.s were shortly expected from Victoria, and as they would call at the Bluff en route to Dunedin, he proposed that a member of Committee or the Head Master should accompany the Inspector to the Bluff on arrival of the steamer, and endeavour to induce one of these teachers, who were all certificated, to accept the situation. Ihe Committee agreed with the suggestion, and Mr W ebber was appointed to accompany the Inspector to the Bluff for the purpose named. MrT. Denniston was nominated by the Committee for the vacant seat at the ifiducatiou Board. A letter was read from the Board, intimating that the sum of ,€BSO had been voted for a new school at liiverton. In connection with this matter, the Chairman stated that the architect would have the plans ready about the 10th ins'ant, when, if they were appoved of by the Board, tenders would be immediately called for the work. * It was resolved in future to charge ’each sehol.ir one shilling per quarter for the use of ink, stationery, &c. The Chairman was empowered to make a slight alteration in the Head Master’s room, to render it suitable for the accommodation of the’ second master.
