We learn from tho “ Southland Times ” that a numerously attended meeting of those interested in the development of tho Longwood Goldfields, was hold at tho Club Hotel, Invercargill, on Tuesday last Mr MeEwan in the chair. Tho Secretary said that in accordance with [the instructions of tho last meeting a telegram had been sent to the Government requesting the services of Professor Ulrich, to report upon the Long wood Goldfields. Tho reply of tho Government was to tho effect that he was engaged in teaching, and could not come for some considerable time. A reply had also been received from Mr Joyce, stating that a grant for tho bridgeover tho I’urapurakino Creek had been passed and specifications had been prepared. The matter of tho Longwood tramway was alsa under consideration by tho Government. Mr Joyce expressed satisfaction at having been applied to in tho mat ter, and his willingness to take any further steps that might be required. On the motion of Mr McArthur, seconded by Mr Daniels the mooting resolved, “ That tho chai man be requested to write to Messrs Kin-sni-i, lilcQ.iioen, and Co., Dunedin, enquiring whether they are likely to come to terms with Messrs Hayes, for the construction of a quartz crushing machine, and if so, whon .it is likely to be erected. Also to ask Messrs Kincaid, M'Quewn, and Co., in Cite event of their ■ liaviag no sucli understanding with Messrs i lay os, whether in ease of other companies guaranteeing to give thorn crushing woik, they would undertake to erect a quartz crushing machine on terms to be agreed on.
