The Kumara Times congratulates its realors on the circumstance that one of llio relics of the dark ages lias disappeared from Mio Kumara locality—one of the remnants of barbarism that institution called a lock up, consisting of a ealieo tent, a strong stump driven into the ground and a couple of chains with manacles worthy of the days of Jack Shepherd, with which any unfortunate "drunk," ,or anybody else who was wanted in safekeeping, was fastened. The new lock-up has been passed as complete, and is now ready for tenants. TheTimes'says the building is strong enough- -the only drawback being want of light. The architect who designed it evidently had some idea that it would be used as a e_»al hole, ov some other place where light i< not required.
