. The trim-huilt little screw steamer Halcyon, ■which was purchased at Lyttelton by Messrs Tall and Abbott for the coasting trade here, arrived yesterday, at 4 a.m. The vessel, after reeeuing a •thorough overhaul at Port Chalmers, left there at nOon on Wednesday, arrived at the Bluff at 10 ■o’clock on Thursday ; left for Riverton at 1.30 a.m. yesterday, and arrived as above, the latter pas c age being done in remarkably good time. This little craft, which is capable of carrying 30 tons freight, has accomodation for 12 passengers, and is able to steam from eight to nine knots an hour, will prove a great acquisition to our coasting fleet.. She is not only well adapted for the trade which her owners intend placing her in, namely, between Riverton, the Bluff, Stewart’s Island, and Orepuki, but is also well suited for towing, her engines being of 23 horse power. She has brought a full cargo from Dunedin and the Bluff. The paddle steamer Comeraug arrived on her usual trip from Invercargill, via the Bluff, on Thursday morning, with a full general cargo. She took in a loadins of grain, and left for the Bluff the same evening. She returned last night, to take in a cargo of timber for Dunedin, and avo for that port to-day.
