Passengers: Messrs Hodgson, Wallison, Spinks, Mrs Telfer, Mr Lynch, and 3 sons ; and 10 steerage The cutter Alarm sailed on her maiden trip on Wednesday. She has been chartered by Mr Hatch, of Invercargill, to go to the West Coast on a sealing cruise, a number of the Wakanatu Sealing party being on board. May success attend her. The schooner Mary Ogilvie sailed for the Bluff oft Saturday, wi?h a cargo of grain. The cutter Cygnet arrived in port yesterday from her expedition to Mutton Bird Islands. She brings a large number of mutton birds and a quantity of guano found there, which, in appearance, resembles the Peruvian product. We understand that Mr Steven Tall has purchased the screw steamer Halcyon, which has been engaged in the Lyttelton and Kaiapoi trade for some time past, and it is his intention to run her between Riverton, Bluff, Stewart’s Island, _ and Orepuki. We bail with pleasure this addh tion to our coasting fleet, and trust that her en’ terprising owner’s efforts to open up regula r steam communication with the above ports, may he rewarded with success. H.H.S. Nymph left Port Chalmers yesterday morning for the Auckland lahnds, to endeavour to discover any trace of’ the missing ship Strathnaver.
