THE INVERCARGILL HORSE SHOW.

■ $ (Southland Times.) The annual parade of entire horses, which took place in the show ground of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Saturday, the 2nd iust., was to a considerable extent a failure. This was mainly attributable to the weather, which was most unpropitious, and, it being so, many horses were doubtless prevented from turning out. The time for theparade was set down as extending from 11 to 1 o’clock, but it was after 1-2 o’clock before either horses or spectators began to make their appearance ©n the ground.. Then however things changed their aspect, and both'horses and men, the former to the number of seven, the latter to the number af about two hundred, showed up. The only representative of the thoroughbreds which came forward was Mr Stark’s Prince Alfred, a six year old well known in the district, and about which, the efore, little need be said... Mr R. W. Aitkin’s Nana, a part-bred Arab, was also exhibited, and all the others were of the heavy draught class.,.- We will name them in what we deem to be their order of merit, namely, | Prince of Wales, owned by the Prince <:f W ales company ; Young Champion, owned by Mr James Ha, of Riverton; Conqueror j owned by M‘i ntosh and Co : L i\i Nelson, ! owned by Mr \\ ■ .B; Kings well; and i oiin ( Campbell,.the prop Tty of Mr Dawson of 1 the eastern district. It would be difficult to overestimate the good qualities of Young Champion, lie is a bright chestnut rising four years’ old; possesses the finest quality of hair, and in a great quantity ; ims flat bones, a short back and admirable action. Nest came Conqueror, a medium-sized; brown horse, with excellent' features I i.
