Total £1647 18 4 For the quarter ending 9tb March, 1874 £l2Ol 5 10 Messrs Peter Grant and Co. held a sale of cattle at their yards on Tuesday, when most of the lots offered realised satisfactory prices. At the land sale on Thursday the bidding was not so spirited as might have beeu expected, considering the excellence of a large nnmbar of the allotments submitted to the hammer; but. notwithstanding the. limited atten ance, which may partly be accoonted for by the harvesting operations occupying the attend m of most of the country settlers, a large portion of the sections offered were disposed of at fair prices.

Butter, fresh, Is 6d per lb Salt butter, Is Cheese (Provincial), |Bd to 9d per lb Bacon,(Provincial). 9d do Hama, (Provincial), Is Id do Potatoes, s 6 per cwt Eggs, Is 6d per dozen Cato, 2s 6d to 3s "Wheat, 4s Barley, 3s 6d to 4s Flour, (town made), £ll to £l3 per ton Do (Otago), £l3 to £l3 10s do Do (Adelaide), £l7 10s Oatmeal (town made), £25 per ton Pearl barley, £25 do Pollard, £5 do Bran, £6 do Oaten hay, £6 do Chaff, £6 10s to £5 do Straw, £4 10s do RETAIL. Fresh butter, Is 9d per lb Butter (potted), Is 3d do Cheese (Provincial), Is do Onions, 6d do Hams (Provincial), Is 3d do Potatoes, 8s per cwt Oats, 8s 6d per bushel Eggs, Is 9d per dozen Bacon (Provincial), Is per lb Fowls Ssper pair 1 DUNEDIN. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report for the week ending 23th March as follows : Fat Cattle. —We sold 20 head, at from £7 I7*6d to £9, equal to 20s per 1001 b for good quality, and 22s 6d for medium. Privately we sold 45 head, at prices equal to 25s per 1001 b. - Fat Calves are in good demand. 20 were yarded, tmd sold at from 25s to 45s eaeh. Fat Sheep.—l,ooo of all sorts were penned, but only a portion were sold, the rest being turned put. We sold 270 cross-breds, at los 6d, and 380 merinos at 8s 6d. We quote prime half-breds at 3£d per lb; ditto merinos, 2|d. Privately we sold 500 merino wethers at quotations. Fat Lambs.—lso were penned. We sold 80 at from 6s 9d to 9s. Store. Cattle. —We have inquiries for well-grown cattle, but no transactions to report. We quote bullocks, 3 to 5 years old, £5 to £6; cows, do, £-1 to £5 ; mixed lots, £3 to £3 10s. Pure Stock.—On Saturday, 27tli of March, we held a sale by auction at Port Chalmers, on account of GE Sutton. Esq., of 60 pure Lincoln ewes and rams, ex Mallovvdale, from London. There was a moderate attendance of buyers, and a corresponding, inactivity in the bidding ; but, notwithstanding, the whole lot was disposed of, the ewes, bringing from 20 to 33 guineas each, and the rams from 60 to 100 guineas each. The chief buyers were Messrs Tolmie, Holmes, Coe, Manning, and Dodson. Mr Tolmie secured at the last-mentioned figure, Volunteer, a son of Old Volunteer, a ram that was let in England for four seasons for 375 guineas. Horses.—We quote first-class draughts, £65 to £75 ; medium ditto, £45 to £55 ; light ditto, £25 to £35 ; good hacks ami ligh; harness horses, £25 to £35 ; medium ditto, £ls to £2O ; light and inferior. £5 to £7. Sheepskins and Hides. —Oa account of the holidays, no sale was held, this week. Gyain.—Very little business doing. Quotations nominal.
