GUMMIE'S BUSH.
, , I’ ♦— IA- [FROM Oim COEEESPONDENT.]
On Saturday last, Mr. Geo. Howell, contractor for forming the Western District main road, finished his contract ; and has now left it to Mr. Cromby, the contractor for gravelling. Ho also is rapidly bringing his contract to a close. In a very short time the drays will be dispensed with, there remaining then only the spreading of it. Mr. Arid is progressing rapidly with his contract, and has at last fenced across the head of the cutting, and places a lamp there at night, which was much needed —in fact, it was very dangerous before. The crops have thrown off that thirsty, sicklylooking appearance which they had before the late rains, and once more cheers the heart of the farmers.
The District Road Board is doing wonders this year in placing culverts where required and forming roads, and that, coupled with the main road, will eradicate the painful complaints that have been continually and quietly made by the farmers for the last five years.
