WESTERN DISTRICT JOCKEY CLUB.
A meeting of gentlemen favourable to tlie formation of a Jockey Club in tbe Western District was beld on Thursday evening, at tbe Commercial Hotel. Mr. John Wilson occupied tbo cbair. After some discussion it was resolved to form a club to be called tbe Western District Jockey Club. The subscription was fixed at £2 2s. per annum. Tbe rules of the Winton Jockey Club were adopted, and office-bearers appointed by ballot. The following gentlemen were elected to fill the various positions : President, Mr.Thstono; Vice-President, Mr. T. Bremner; Treasurer, Mr. D. Murchie; Secretary, Mr. J. C. Kerr. Committee of Management—Messrs. Murchie, Kerr, Bremner, Wilson, and Schmidt. Auditors Messrs. E. H. Long and G. L. Grant. Some discussion ensued relative to the time for the first races of the Club. It was resolved by the Committee to have races in February, if possible. Twenty gentlemen have already become members of the Club, and it is probable many other will do so. The Club has been started on a good basis, and there is nothing to prevent a capital meeting in about six weeks. w.
