THE WESTERN STAR. PUBLISHED WEEKLY. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1873.

• <► Trying to ascertain tlie utmost limits of a community’s endurance may be very interesting to an experimentalist; but is scarcely a wise proceeding on tlie part of a government. The Provincial Executive seem, however, inclined to test bow long tbc people of this town will quietly suffer the injustice and loss inflicted upon them through the absence of wharfage accommodation. The necessity for immediately commencing the construction of a wharf has repeatedly been urged upon the Government, but fruitlessly. They seem content to witness with careless indifference the people of this town suffering heavy pecuniary loss and inconvenience, and the trade of the port ruined. What docs it all mean ?

plans and specifications for. works in this district cannot be placed on view in Riverton. There are a number of local contractors quite capable of satisfactorily executing those works, and who probably will tender. It is handicapping .them unfairly to compel them to travel forty-five miles for the purpose of obtaining the information necessary to enable them to make up the amount of their tenders, which, after all, may not be accepted. Wore there any difficulty in havingthe plans and specifications exhibited at Riverton, there might be some reason for the G-overnment not doing so ; but as it is such a comparatively simple matter, they cannot possibly offer any feasible objection to the adoption of that course.
