RIVERTON TOWN COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Riverton Town Council was held on Saturday evening. _ Present: The Mayor, and Councillors Mills, Reid, and Instone. The tender from Messrs. Whittingham Bros, and Instone for the lease of the powder magazine for twelve months for £2, being the only one sent in, was accepted. On the motion of Cr. Instone, seconded by Cr. Reid, Mr. Edward Simpson was appointed town surveyor, his salary to be 5 per cent, on the value of all works. Cr. Mills gave notice that at next meeting he would move “ That the bye-laws as published in The Western Stae be-adopted.” It was resolved on the motion of Cr. Instone, and seconded by Cr. Reid, “That the Mayor write to the Superintendent urging the necessity of at once commencing the new jetty.” The Council then adjourned.
